A Better Home. A Better IKEA Hack
June 1, 2018
Reimagine IKEA. Reimagine better. It starts with a great space – big windows, tall ceilings and lots of natural light. Next, clever modifications to some basic IKEA pieces that are beautiful, functional and affordable. Here are some of our ideas on how to do custom interior design on a budget.
A great living room feature wall starts with BESTÅ. Available in a variety of sizes, BESTÅ wall units can be arranged to create a striking composition while maximizing storage across our 10-ft high ceilings. More BESTÅ units are installed at the seated height and paired with DIY wood cubbies for the perfect reading bench. Elevate the feature wall with floor to ceiling oak wall paneling and some of this season’s best IKEA pieces, like the VALLENTUNA sofa and VEDBO lounge chair.
A SALMI glass table gets a fresh new look by powder coating the chrome table base navy blue. Complement the new blue tones with dark ODGER dining chairs – a design that is both sustainable and beautiful. Create your own pendant lamp by adding a minimal cord to the KRUSNING lamp shade for a soft, di‑ used light, ideal for any dining room.
A king size MALM bed is hacked by using infill panels to extend the headboard wall to wall. The headboard is wrapped with foam and finished in a soft grey wool felt. Wall mounted BESTÅ units frame the bed and serve as night tables. Complete the look with PS 2017 table lamps, books and greenery.
Reimagine the KURA bed by adding a roofline and whitewashing the bedframe. This simple structure transforms into endless possibilities for a child’s imagination. Add pillows and blankets to create a cozy fort below and low FLISAT wall storage to ensure favourite books are always within reach. Under the windowsill, EKET cubes are the structure and storage for a DIY window seat.
